Guidelines for Admission
It
is critical that children with disabilities are provided the
appropriate services in an environment which will best facilitate the
achievement of their personal goals. Each child has his or her own
unique strengths and challenges. Children’s TLC recognizes that our
services, settings and delivery models are not “one size fits all”.
With this in mind, our teams develop personalized education and
therapeutic care plans for our students. Children’s TLC offers a
preschool where the majority of therapies are provided within the
classrooms. When families pursue our preschool program, the individual
needs of their child are considered in relation to our preschool
programming.
The following guidelines have been
established for children ages 2-6 whose parents are considering
preschool services for their child with a disability:
• At least one therapy is required.
• The family agrees to participate in the child’s program.
•
The needs of the child can be managed by one staff member when the
child is in a group and when the child is being transitioned within the
facility.
• The child responds positively to therapy and/or instruction delivered in a group setting.
• The child does not require continuous one-to-one care
• The child’s current health allows for consistent attendance
•
The child demonstrates purposeful or intentional activity in at least
one of the following domains: cognitive, physical, communicative, or
social
The following guidelines have been established
for children ages 2-6 whose parent are considering preschool services
for their child who is typically developing:
• The family agrees to participate in the child’s programming.
• The child appears to have age appropriate developmental milestones.
•
The needs of the child can be managed by one staff member when the
child is in a group and when the child is being transitioned within the
facility.
• The child does not require continuous one-to-one care.
• The child’s current health allows for consistent attendance.
For
a child to be admitted, the needs of the child, the family and the
preschool must be a match. Our program director will assist the family
in finding a program that matches the unique needs of their child. To
aid in determining the best placement for each child, he/she may be
placed in the preschool for a trial period not to exceed 30 days.
During that time, the professional staff will collect data to determine
the fit between the child’s needs and the capabilities of the preschool
to deliver appropriate services to the child and their family.
Additionally, this trial period gives the family the ability to
evaluate the program and the services provided by Children’s TLC. |
